Indonesia’s Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki Erupts Sending Ash 10 Kilometres Into Sky

Doha: Mount Lewotobi Laki Laki volcano in Indonesia's East Nusa Tenggara province resumed activity today after being dormant for a few weeks. Indonesia's Volcanology and Seismology Agency said in a statement that the volcano erupted again, spewing an ash column more than 10 kilometers into the sky. Residents were urged to evacuate an area six to seven kilometers from the crater and to be vigilant against the risk of mudflow during heavy rain.

According to Qatar News Agency, the volcano spewed an ash column and lava flowed down the mountainside, but there have been no casualties so far. The volcano has erupted several times in recent months, including one in early July that sent ash 18 kilometers into the air and disrupted flights to and from the nearby tourist island of Bali.
