ICRC: Evacuating Gaza City Would Cause Mass Displacement with Unbearable Consequences

Gaza city: The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) stated on Saturday that a safe evacuation of Gaza City is 'impossible and would result in mass displacement that no area in the Strip could bear.'

According to Qatar News Agency, ICRC emphasized that under the current conditions, it is impossible to evacuate Gaza City in a way that preserves human dignity. The evacuation would lead to mass displacement in a territory already struggling with destroyed civilian infrastructure, severe shortages of food, water, shelter, and medical care due to the ongoing Israeli assault.

The ICRC noted that such an evacuation would place further burden on Palestinians already traumatized by months of fighting, who are living in fear of what may happen next.

The organization also highlighted that Palestinians in Gaza are unable to comply with evacuation orders because they are starving, ill, wounded, or physically disabled.

The ICRC stressed that all civilians are protected under international humanitarian law, whether they leave the city or remain, and must be allowed to return to their homes.
