Kigali: HE Rwandan Government Spokesperson Yolande Makolo emphasized the significance of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani's visit to Rwanda as a reflection of the robust relationship between the two nations.
According to Qatar News Agency, Makolo stated that the visit signifies the growing friendly relations and the commitment of both countries to enhance their existing partnership and expand cooperation across various fields.
Rwanda anticipates the visit due to its political and economic importance. Makolo noted that it provides an opportunity to build on the strong foundations laid by HE President of Rwanda Paul Kagame and HH the Amir. She highlighted the promising future of cooperation between the two countries, underpinned by strong relations and mutual understanding between the leaderships.
Discussing future cooperation prospects, Makolo affirmed that Qatar's strategic investments in Rwanda exemplify productive collaboration. She expressed Rwanda's eagerness to achieve more in fields of mutual interest, emphasizing that the visit could enhance the positive and beneficial relations for both countries.
Makolo outlined technology, innovation, energy, and agriculture as key sectors for strategic cooperation. She also highlighted agriculture as a crucial area for strengthening ties with Qatar.
She pointed out Rwanda's desire to expand cooperation in these sectors due to their long-term impact, emphasizing the goal of achieving economic development that benefits both nations. Makolo described the current relations between Doha and Kigali as "excellent," highlighting ongoing efforts to strengthen these ties.
In the political arena, she acknowledged Qatar as a trusted partner, appreciating its role in mediating global issues, including the situation in the Great Lakes region. She praised Qatar's unique and sustainable approach, which Rwanda values highly.
Makolo underscored the solid foundation of the relationship, which has fostered extensive cooperation in multiple fields, particularly education. She appreciated Qatar's support for the Zero-Out-Of-School project, emphasizing its importance in building human capacity in Rwanda.
She concluded by expressing Rwanda's desire to increase the number of Rwandan students studying in Qatar as part of their economic growth strategy.
