Lusail: HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani and HE President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, engaged in discussions concerning regional and international developments amid rising tensions, including ongoing Iranian aggression against Qatar and other regional nations, and updates on the Ukrainian crisis, during a meeting at Lusail Palace.
According to Qatar News Agency, HE the Ukrainian President reiterated Ukraine's solidarity with Qatar, condemning Iranian aggression and supporting Qatar's measures to protect its sovereignty, security, and citizen safety. HH the Amir expressed gratitude for Ukraine's supportive stance and the President's sincere sentiments.
Both leaders stressed the urgent need for an immediate cessation of military actions that could widen conflicts in the Middle East and Ukraine, cautioning against the consequences of continued escalation on regional and global security. They emphasized the importance of intensifying efforts through regional and international diplomatic channels to de-escalate tensions and promote global peace and security amidst accelerating international challenges.
The meeting also explored avenues to enhance cooperation between Qatar and Ukraine, focusing on technology, security, defense, and energy sectors to strengthen bilateral partnerships.
The Qatari delegation included HE Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani, HE Chief of Amiri Diwan Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Khulaifi, and several senior officials. The Ukrainian delegation comprised HE Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Rustem Umerov, HE First Deputy Head of the Office of the President Sergiy Kyslytsya, and other officials.
Additionally, HH the Amir and HE the President held a bilateral meeting to exchange views on regional and global developments, underscoring the importance of ongoing coordination between the two nations, especially considering events impacting regional security and stability.
Following the meeting, HH the Amir hosted a luncheon banquet in honor of HE President Volodymyr Zelensky and his delegation.
