BOGOTA: HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani and HE President of Colombia Gustavo Petro convened for an official session of talks at the Casa de Narino Presidential Palace in Bogota. The discussions aimed at fortifying the bilateral relationship between Qatar and Colombia, focusing on expanding cooperation across various sectors to benefit the two nations.
According to Qatar News Agency, President Petro warmly welcomed HH the Amir and his delegation, expressing optimism that the visit would open new avenues for collaboration. The Amir reciprocated the sentiments, emphasizing his commitment to exploring opportunities, particularly in investment, to enhance Qatar-Colombia relations.
During the talks, both leaders reviewed the current state of cooperation in areas such as investment, economy, and trade. They explored strategies to further strengthen these ties. The discussions also touched on pressing regional and international matters, including developments in the Gaza Strip, the occupied Palestinian
territories, and Lebanon, underscoring the importance of de-escalating tensions in the Middle East and achieving a ceasefire.
The session saw participation from several high-ranking officials from both countries. The Qatari delegation included HE Chief of the Amiri Diwan Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Khulaifi, HE Minister of State for Energy Affairs Saad bin Sherida Al Kaabi, HE Minister of Commerce and Industry Sheikh Faisal bin Thani Al-Thani, and HE Minister of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Al Khulaifi. From Colombia, officials such as HE Vice President and Minister of Equality and Equity Francia Marquez Mina, HE Minister of Foreign Affairs Luis Gilberto Murillo, and other key ministers were present.
Prior to the official talks, HH the Amir and President Petro engaged in a bilateral meeting to discuss ways to enhance cooperation. HH the Amir was accorded an official reception upon his arrival at the presidential palace.
