Gaza: Director-General of Hospitals at the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza, Dr. Mohammed Zaqout, said that the ministry has more than 6,000 cases, including patients and wounded as a result of the Israeli aggression, who are ready to travel outside the Gaza Strip to receive medical treatment.
According to Qatar News Agency, Dr. Zaqout stated that there are over 12,000 cases in desperate need of treatment abroad due to the inadequate capabilities of hospitals within the Strip and the collapse of the healthcare system because of ongoing Israeli attacks.
He highlighted that the limited numbers permitted to travel daily starting Saturday are insufficient to address all these emergency and urgent cases, expressing hope for an increase in the numbers soon.
Dr. Zaqout elaborated that numerous critical medical cases require immediate medical interventions unavailable in the hospitals of the sector. He also mentioned the presence of a technical committee tasked with reviewing these cases to facilitate their medical transfers for months.
On Saturday, 50 wounded and sick children were transferred with their companions to Egypt after a list of names was sent to the parties involved. Patients and their companions were contacted by phone to organize the travel procedures.
Dr. Zaqout indicated that the Ministry of Health had requested patient travel to countries beyond Egypt, but there is currently no mechanism to arrange this. Consequently, it was agreed that these patients would receive treatment in Egyptian hospitals. He requested that additional patients be accommodated in other countries to secure their right to medical treatment.
In line with the ceasefire agreement terms, 50 wounded and sick individuals will be allowed to travel daily with their companions through the Rafah crossing.
