The 26th Algiers International Book Fair concluded Saturday in Algiers featuring the participation of 1,283 publishers from 61 Arab and foreign countries.
The fair, which ran from October 25th, was held under the theme “Africa Writes the Future,” highlighting the historical and cultural heritage of the African continent, as well as various Arab issues, with a special focus on the Palestinian cause.
Speaking to Qatar News Agency (QNA), governor of the Algiers International Book Fair Mohammed Iqrib noted that the 26th edition saw a record participation of publishing houses, with 1,283 exhibitors representing 60 countries from around the world, covering an area exceeding 20,000 square meters.
He pointed out that six pavilions were dedicated to selling and displaying books, along with a rich cultural program. He added that the fair also featured a significant response from visitors, particularly to the special section dedicated to Gaza, where dialogues, discussions, meetings, and seminars were conducted to raise awareness of the heinous crimes committed by the Israeli occupation against the Palestinian people.
More than 200 Algerian, Arab, and international writers participated in the fair, organizing 40 cultural activities and over 200 public events.
He emphasized that the fair achieved its goals in terms of participation, interest in cultural programs, and especially Arab participation. He highlighted the importance of Arab unity and collaboration, considering the sensitive situation in the Arab world, making it an inclusive opportunity and a gathering point for all things Arab.
Iqrib also pointed out that over 80 percent of the cultural program at the fair was dedicated to the Palestinian cause and other just Arab issues that Arab authors addressed daily.
