Germany Approaches US-Russia Summit Outcomes with Caution


Berlin: The German government expressed its cautious approach toward the outcomes of the summit held yesterday, Friday, in Alaska between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin. Government sources in Berlin reported that Chancellor Friedrich Merz is being kept updated on the developments in Anchorage, while his team maintains active contact with BerlinSpound international allies.



According to Qatar News Agency, Trump said that he would immediately brief European partners on the agreements reached during his meeting with Putin, although he provided only limited details regarding the main subject of the summit, ending the war in Ukraine. The Russian president, meanwhile, spoke of agreements that could serve as a starting point for resolving the conflict.



The US president also stressed the need to end the war in Ukraine, adding that his Russian counterpart shares the same goal.



Western countries led by Germany, France, and the United Kingdom had held a consultation session with Trump before his meeting with Putin, emphasizing the need to push the Russian president to accept ending the war without ceding Ukrainian territory to Moscow.
