German and Turkish Foreign Ministers Focus on Strengthening Bilateral Ties and Regional Peace

Berlin: German Foreign Minister Johannes Wadephul met with his Turkish counterpart, Hakan Fidan, who is visiting Berlin, to discuss ways to strengthen relations between the two countries in several areas.

According to Qatar News Agency, the meeting also addressed regional and international issues, especially emphasizing the importance of implementing the peace plan in Gaza. Both ministers highlighted the necessity to prevent a return to destruction, annihilation, and massacres in the Gaza Strip. In this context, Fidan underscored the importance of working collaboratively to initiate the reconstruction phase and expedite the delivery of humanitarian aid to the population, while advancing the peace process to prevent a possible resurgence of violence.

Fidan also elaborated on mediation efforts to end the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, noting a comprehensive exchange of views with Wadephul on the matter. He emphasized that achieving a mutually acceptable peace has become both a humanitarian and strategic necessity. Fidan highlighted that Turkiye had hosted three rounds of negotiations during the Istanbul talks, which he considered successful, particularly in terms of agreements to release thousands of prisoners and exchange the remains of those killed in the conflict.

Additionally, the ministers agreed on the importance of continuing to strengthen bilateral cooperation. Germany remains Turkiye's leading trading partner in Europe and the largest global market for Turkish exports, underscoring the significance of their economic relationship.
