Doha: The General Secretariat of the Shura Council met today with participants in the 22nd qualifying training program for legal professionals for the year 2025 at the Ministry of Justice’s Center for Legal and Judicial Studies. The meeting aimed to provide insights into the council’s work, competencies as outlined by the constitution, internal regulations, and legislative procedures.
According to Qatar News Agency, the visit was part of an initiative to foster community partnerships and engage with various sectors of society. Participants received a briefing from Ahmed Sultan Al Ghanim, Director of Sessions and Committees Affairs Department, and Mohammad Ibrahim Al Sheikh, Director of the Legislative Affairs Department at the General Secretariat. They discussed the Shura Council’s history of over fifty years and its role in achieving national development goals, along with its legislative and oversight responsibilities as defined by the state’s constitution and internal regulations.
The participants were introduced to the council’s organizational structure, which includes the council’s presidency, office, committees, and general secretariat. Each body has specific powers under the constitution and internal regulations. Additionally, they learned about the functions of the Shura Council’s six permanent committees, which are crucial to the council’s operations. These committees focus on legal and legislative affairs, internal and external affairs, economic and financial affairs, health, general services and the environment, education, culture, sport and information, and social affairs, labor, and housing. They are responsible for studying, expressing viewpoints, and preparing reports on various assigned topics.
During the visit, attendees also toured the Shura Council exhibition, which features records, speeches, and other items that document the council’s history since its establishment in 1972.
