GCC Urges Global Backing for UNRWA Amid Escalating Humanitarian Crisis

Doha: Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi emphasized the critical need for the international community to maintain its support for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA). This call to action was made during a meeting with UNRWA Commissioner General Philippe Lazzarini, coinciding with the 51st session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Member States of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

According to Qatar News Agency, the meeting focused on the deteriorating humanitarian and relief conditions in the Gaza Strip, occupied Palestinian territories, and refugee camps. The discussions underscored the unprecedented challenges these areas are currently facing. Albudaiwi reaffirmed the commitment of GCC states to regional and international efforts aimed at providing humanitarian and relief aid to the Palestinian people. He highlighted the necessity of allowing unrestricted entry of humanitarian assistance through all crossings and urged a halt to Israeli occupation forces' disruptions of the Agency's centers and aid distribution points.

The UNRWA Commissioner General expressed his gratitude for the significant contributions and efforts by GCC states, which have been instrumental in supporting the Agency amid the growing challenges faced by the Palestinian people.
