GCC Secretary-General Highlights Efforts to Enhance Public Funds Safeguarding

Kuwait city: GCC Secretary-General Jasem Mohamed AlBudaiwi affirmed the concerted efforts made by the GCC states to enhance the safeguarding of public funds through their regulatory bodies. AlBudaiwi's remarks came during the 22nd meeting of the Heads of the Financial and Accounting Audit Bureaus of the GCC states, held in Kuwait City.

According to Qatar News Agency, AlBudaiwi emphasized the continuous endeavors of the Gulf oversight bodies to develop their performance and promote coordination among their activities. He reiterated the commitment to advancing joint Gulf cooperation in audit and accountability, highlighting the oversight bodies' awareness of the responsibility entrusted to them by the GCC leaders.

AlBudaiwi noted that the meeting reflects a commitment to realizing the aspirations of the GCC peoples. The agenda was prepared based on outcomes from the 26th meeting of the Undersecretaries on July 30, covering significant topics to advance joint work in oversight and accountability.

Key topics discussed included a strategic training plan for 2023-2025, which supports development efforts and capacity-building in oversight work. Additionally, a draft strategic training plan for 2026-2028 aims to anticipate future requirements while enhancing professional competence in oversight bodies.

The meeting also addressed the draft regulatory framework for the Excellence in Public Service Award, which seeks to motivate personnel and improve institutional performance in GCC oversight bodies, alongside designating a Gulf Week for Financial Oversight and Accountability.
