Fruit-and-Vegetable Diet Linked to Reduced Kidney Disease Complications in Study

Denver:A study spanning a decade has revealed that a diet rich in fruits and vegetables may play a significant role in alleviating complications associated with stage 3 chronic kidney disease. The research involved 108 adults and indicated promising results for those adhering to this dietary plan.

According to Qatar News Agency, the group following the fruit-and-vegetable diet experienced significantly fewer hospital admissions, emergency visits, and dialysis cases compared to those receiving standard care. Specifically, the diet group had 14 hospital admissions, 20 emergency visits, and four instances of dialysis, whereas the standard care group recorded 64 admissions, 88 emergency visits, and 16 dialysis cases. The study also noted that sodium bicarbonate did not demonstrate any clear benefits.

Researchers emphasized the necessity for additional studies to further explore these findings. They also highlighted that any dietary adjustments should be made under medical supervision and should not substitute prescribed medications. The study's findings are scheduled to be presented at Kidney Week 2026, taking place in Denver from October 22 to 25.
