Doha: French President Emmanuel Macron spoke by phone Saturday with the newly installed head of Madagascar's Re-Founding Committee, Michael Randrianirina, reaffirming France's commitment to accompanying and supporting the ongoing transitional process in Madagascar, in line with the aspirations expressed by the Malagasy people, especially its youth.

According to Qatar News Agency, in a joint statement, the two leaders underscored the strategic importance of their bilateral relations. Macron welcomed the launch of a nationwide consultative process and a series of structural reforms, notably anti-corruption measures, and endorsed plans to hold elections within reasonable deadlines.

He also announced immediate financial assistance to safeguard food security in Madagascar, highlighting France's intent to help stabilize the nation during this critical phase. The call comes against the backdrop of Randrianirina's formal inauguration on Oct. 17, 2025, days after his elite military unit seized control of power following mass youth-led protests across the island.

Macron's statement last week affirmed Paris's readiness to support Madagascar's transition with an open-spirited approach, signaling a clear shift in France's posture toward the Indian Ocean nation.
