Four Migrants Drown, 91 Rescued Off Libya’s Coast

Doha: Four migrants drowned off the coast of the Libyan city of Khoms, while 91 others were rescued, the Libyan Red Crescent said Saturday.

According to Qatar News Agency, in a post on Facebook, the organization said it received a report late Thursday about two boats carrying irregular migrants that had capsized near the Khoms shoreline. The first boat carried 26 migrants from Bangladesh, four of whom died.

The second boat carried 69 migrants, including two Egyptians and the rest Sudanese nationals, among them eight children.

The Red Crescent stated that its emergency team, working with the Coast Guard and Port Security, handled the cases in line with established procedures. The bodies were recovered and handed over to the relevant authorities to complete legal measures under the instructions of the Khoms public prosecutor.
