A former Israeli general stated that his country is on its way to a large-scale war on the northern border, against the Lebanese Hezbollah.
Israeli radio reported, on Friday morning, that Reserve General Hazi Naama, one of the leaders of the ‘Reserve Leaders and Soldiers’ Forum in the Israeli army, said that his country ‘is on the way to a large-scale war in the north against the Lebanese Hezbollah, which will begin at a time that suits Tel Aviv.’
The Israeli general explained that “the Lebanese party is being targeted and is suffering, and it is time to strike it and there is no escape from waging war,” he claimed.
Earlier on Friday, the Israeli army announced the cancellation of orders restricting movement and large gatherings, which were issued to a number of residential communities in northern Israel and the occupied Syrian Golan.
The Israeli Army Radio reported that “orders were issued by the army to cancel the orders restricting movement and large gatherings, which were issued to a number of reside
ntial communities in the Golan, the north of the country, and the Upper Galilee, specifically the city of Safed.”
Israel imposed these restrictions following the start of an intensive wave of Israeli strikes on southern Lebanon yesterday, Thursday, which exacerbated fears of a new escalation between the Israeli army and elements of the Lebanese Hezbollah.
In the same context, an Israeli channel reported that the Israeli army decided to increase the number of targets in the “target bank” in the north of the country, without reaching a state of war with the Lebanese Hezbollah.
Channel 14 Israel reported that “after 3 full days of fierce fighting on the northern front, the Israeli army decided to take a number of decisions regarding the continuation of the war against Hezbollah,” explaining that “it was decided to significantly increase the target bank on the northern front, without reaching a state of war against the Lebanese party.”
Yesterday, Thursday, the Chief of Staff of the Israeli Army, Herzi Halevi,
approved the “military plans to continue the war on the northern front” with Lebanon, while the Israeli Air Force carried out several strikes on several towns in southern Lebanon, coinciding with the beginning of the speech of the Secretary-General of Hezbollah, Hassan Nasrallah.
Lebanon witnessed a large-scale double attack on September 17 and 18, which targeted the bombing of a large number of pagers and wireless communications devices. According to official data, 37 people were killed and about 3,000 others were injured.
It is not yet known with certainty how the simultaneous explosion of thousands of devices took place, but the Lebanese government and Hezbollah have accused “Israel of being responsible for the attack,” while the Israeli authorities have neither confirmed nor denied their involvement.
