Geneva: The foreign ministers of France, Germany, and the United Kingdom, along with the European Union (EU) High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, called Friday for the need to find a negotiated solution to the Iranian nuclear issue, avoiding military escalation, ruling out the effectiveness of a military solution in halting Tehran's nuclear program.
According to Qatar News Agency, in a statement following their meeting in Geneva with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi to discuss de-escalation between Israel and Tehran, which has led to the suspension of US-Iranian negotiations, the European Troika and the EU expressed their support for continued discussions on the Iranian nuclear issue, welcoming the ongoing US efforts to seek a negotiated solution to the issue.
They urged a negotiated solution to ensure that Iran never acquires or possesses a nuclear weapon. French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot stated, "We believe there is no definitive solution by military means to the Iranian nuclear issue," while his German counterpart, Johann Vadephul, noted that Tehran appears "prepared in principle to continue discussions." He mentioned that Araghchi was informed that talks would continue regardless of the ongoing Israeli strikes.
Meanwhile, the Iranian Foreign Minister affirmed his country's willingness to "consider" returning to the diplomatic track provided that Israeli aggression against it ceases, expressing Tehran's support for continuing talks with the G3 (France, Germany, and the UK) as well as the EU.
Paris, Berlin, and London announced last Thursday their commitment to negotiations to find a solution with Tehran regarding its nuclear issue, away from military escalation, expressing their welcome of the deadline given by the US President for Iran to return to the negotiating table to resolve the issue.
