FMs of Egypt, Algeria Hold Phone Call on Gaza Situation, Regional Issues

Cairo: Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty discussed over the phone on Saturday with his Algerian counterpart, Ahmed Attaf, the developments in the Gaza Strip. Both ministers underscored their countries’ unwavering positions in pushing back on the decision of the Israeli Cabinet to expand the scope of the Israeli offensive in the enclave.

According to Qatar News Agency, the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that both sides also tackled a variety of regional issues of common concern, particularly the situation in Libya. Abdelatty stressed the importance of respecting Libyan sovereignty and territorial integrity, in addition to backing UN efforts and the Libyan pathway toward a comprehensive political settlement.

The Egyptian ministry pointed out that the call focused on the tripartite neighboring countries mechanism between Egypt, Algeria, and Tunisia, and underscored the constant operationalization of these committees. This includes ensuring the convening of their periodic meetings and bolstering coordination between focal points in preparation for the upcoming ministerial meeting.
