First CMC Chairman to QNA: 1st Period Showed Democratic Experience Full of Enthusiasm for Interest of Homeland

Chairman of Central Municipal Council (CMC) in its first period (1999-2003) Eng. Hamad bin Abdullah Al Nashira Al Marri hailed the democratic experience of Qatari voters and candidates during the first CMC elections as fully enthusiastic and driven by patriotism and allegiance to their country and its leadership.

In an exclusive interview with Qatar News Agency , Al Marri said the Qataris showed a model for free and fair democratic practice, and reflected the level of awareness of the importance of popular participation in decision-making.

Al Marri added that the nation is the first winner in the CMC elections given the great interaction between all nationals, men and women, who were keen to make the elections a success and consolidate the bedrock of the successful march whose fruits the citizens are reaping.

He stressed the State’s interest in holding full transparent CMC elections and motivating nationals to perform their national duty of electing their CMC representatives, a move that contributes to the advancement and development of all municipal services to achieve the sustainable development requirements.

The wise leadership attached a great interest in all phases of the elections by directing various government agencies to cooperate and coordinate with the CMC and follow up on its recommendations and suggestions, he said, highlighting HH the Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani’s efforts to make the experience of the first CMC a success and to consolidate its position, and to work to overcome the various challenges that may hinder its path.

Expressing his pride in being the first chairman of the CMC, Al Marri hailed the experience as a bright stage in his personal and professional career, as he had managed to win the confidence of his fellow CMC members after winning voters’ confidence.

He added that the first CMC elections saw intense competition due to the then recent experience of the Qatari society and its positive interaction with it, in addition to the insistence of all candidates at the time to present a unique image.

Al Marri reviewed the CMC’s recommendations in its first period that aimed at fully advancing municipal services in all fields, in line with the level of progress and development that the State of Qatar seeks to achieve in various sectors.

In the same context, he commended the efforts of Ministry of Interior and all concerned parties in preparing for the 7th CMC elections scheduled for June 22, calling on nationals to actively participate to select their CMC representatives in a bid to develop municipal services across the country, in a way that contributes to achieving Qatar National Vision 2030.
