Finnish Prime Minister Submits Resignation, Government to Continue on a Caretaker Basis

Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin submitted her Governments request for resignation to President of the Republic Sauli Niinisto on Thursday after losing the parliamentary elections.

The Finnish presidency said in a statement, “Prime Minister Sanna Marin submitted her Governments request for resignation to President of the Republic Sauli Niinisto on Thursday 6 April at Mantyniemi. The President of the Republic accepted the resignation and asked the Government to continue in a caretaker capacity until a new Government has been appointed.” The formation of a new government is scheduled to start after the beginning of the sessions of the newly elected parliament.

According to the Finnish Ministry of Justice, the opposition Finnish National Coalition Party won the parliamentary elections in the country on Sunday after counting 99.6 percent of the votes. (QNA)
