Famine and Malnutrition Claim Lives of 7 Palestinians in 24 Hours

Gaza strip: Seven Palestinians died of starvation and malnutrition in the Gaza Strip in the past 24 hours, bringing the total death toll to 154, including 89 children.

According to Qatar News Agency, a UN report has confirmed that Gaza faces a severe risk of famine, with food consumption and nutrition indicators reaching their worst levels since the beginning of the current war. It noted that two of the three famine thresholds have been exceeded in parts of the Strip, with the World Food Program (WFP) and UNICEF warning that time is running out to launch a comprehensive humanitarian response.

The report highlighted that the ongoing war, the collapse of basic services, and the severe restrictions on the delivery and distribution of humanitarian aid imposed on the United Nations have led to catastrophic food security conditions for hundreds of thousands of people across the Strip. It emphasized that Gaza is experiencing the worst humanitarian crisis in its history, with the severe famine intertwining with a genocidal war waged by the Israeli occupation since Oct. 7, 2023.

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) warned that malnutrition among children under the age of five doubled between March and June as a result of the ongoing siege.
