European Stocks Drop Sharply After US Tariff Threats

Doha: European stocks recorded a sharp decline on Monday after US threats to impose additional tariffs unless the US is allowed to buy Greenland: European stocks experienced a significant downturn as markets reacted to the threats issued by the United States regarding potential tariff impositions linked to its interest in purchasing Greenland.

According to Qatar News Agency, the pan-European STOXX 600 index saw a decrease of 1.3 percent, marking a somber beginning to a week that is set to feature numerous earnings reports and the World Economic Forum in Davos. Both events are expected to be closely monitored for signs of developments in tariffs and the broader geopolitical landscape.

In particular, the French CAC 40 index experienced a 1.8 percent drop, while the German DAX index decreased by 1.4 percent. The Financial Times 100 index in Britain also saw a decline, albeit smaller, at 0.4 percent.
