Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor Urges Sanctions on Israel to Halt Gaza Violence.

GAZA: The Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor has called for the imposition of political and economic sanctions on Israel, alongside a complete ban on the sale and export of weapons to the nation, in an effort to end its aggressive actions in the Gaza Strip.

According to Qatar News Agency, the Monitor issued a press release urging the International Criminal Court to investigate all crimes allegedly committed by Israeli forces in Gaza. It appealed for global support for the court’s examination of a case filed by South Africa, which accuses Israel of violating its obligations under the Convention on the Prevention of Genocide during its operations in Gaza.

The press release highlighted the necessity of holding accountable countries and entities complicit with Israel in crimes against the Palestinian people. It pointed to the findings of an investigation into a massacre in Gaza City last year, attributing responsibility to the Israeli army for the deaths of over 70 people, including women, children, and th
e elderly.

The investigation detailed an Israeli attack on the Basra neighborhood on November 17 and 18, 2023, where warplanes and drones targeted a residential area, resulting in a massacre that wiped out an entire family. The attack reportedly involved the deliberate firing of live ammunition at civilians, including during funerals, actions that are violations of international humanitarian law.

Euro-Med Monitor confirmed the identities of 61 victims from the Shaheibar family, comprising 27 children, 16 women (including three elderly), and 18 men (including two elderly). Some victims remain unidentified due to severe body fragmentation.

This is not the first instance of Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor accusing the Israeli military of committing severe human rights violations in Gaza, as the conflict in the region has persisted for over a year.
