EU Reaffirms Its Rejection of Any Parallel Government to Khartoum Authorities

Khartoum: The European Union (EU) affirmed today its support for the unity of Sudan, expressing its rejection of the formation of any parallel government to the Khartoum authorities.

According to Qatar News Agency, Head of the EU Delegation to Sudan, Wolfram Vetter, emphasized via his official X account after the fifth consultative meeting aimed at enhancing coordination of peace initiatives and efforts in Sudan, the significance of establishing a humanitarian truce and a ceasefire. This, he stressed, is crucial to protecting civilians and paving the way for a political process.

It is worth noting that the Sudanese government has recently announced its official return to the capital, Khartoum. This return follows a period when the government was based in Port Sudan due to the outbreak of war in April 2023. Additionally, last year saw the Rapid Support Forces announcing the formation of a "Presidential Council for the Transitional Peace Government," led by Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, also known as "Hemedti."
