Brussels: The European Union (EU) welcomed the formation of the National Authority for Transitional Justice and the National Authority for Missing Persons in Syria, considering it an important step towards the comprehensive justice and truth which the Syrian people deserve.
According to Qatar News Agency, the EU emphasized that efforts on transitional justice are fundamental to lay the groundwork for reconciliation and lasting peace in Syria. The investigation into the fate of all missing persons is deemed a crucial step in bringing closure to families and communities affected by the conflict.
The EU has called on the transitional Syrian authorities to ensure that these efforts are conducted in a transparent, impartial, and inclusive manner, aligning with international standards of justice. The statement emphasized the importance of involving relevant international bodies, as well as Syrian and international civil society organizations, in this process.
