Environment Minister Recognizes Contributions to Houbara Bustard Conservation at S’hail 2025

Doha: HE Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Subaie, visited the 9th Katara International Hunting and Falcons Exhibition "S'hail 2025" held in Doha until September 14. During his visit, he acknowledged private project owners involved in the breeding of the houbara bustard for their efforts in supporting biodiversity and preventing the bird's extinction.

According to Qatar News Agency, HE Al Subaie explored the exhibition's features, including innovations in falconry and hunting. He visited the ministry's two pavilions, where he received insights into the online services provided for digital transformation in the environmental sector. The exhibition also featured the Office for State Protected Areas' initiatives in wildlife conservation and houbara bustard protection, with displays of live birds, taxidermy specimens, and an interactive map of breeding centers.

This year's participation by the Ministry showcased a new format promoting environmental awareness and sustainability. The Natural Reserves Department's pavilion highlighted initiatives such as online services linked to the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) and efforts to control the Myna bird, as explained by Farhoud Hadi Al Hajri, Director of the Public Relations and Communications Department at the Ministry.

Al Hajri noted that the pavilion of the Office for State Protected Areas illustrated Qatar's houbara bustard breeding efforts through specialized centers both domestically and internationally. The pavilion also featured educational exhibits, including taxidermy specimens, live bird displays, and an interactive 3D map of breeding centers.

He further mentioned the introduction of the Promising Falconer Passport to engage young people with the cultural and heritage aspects of falconry, promoting environmental awareness.
