The State of Kuwait will enter on Monday the election silence period a day ahead of its parliamentary elections due on Tuesday June 6.
The electoral silence, also called blackout period or campaign silence is a ban on political campaigning or media coverage of a general election, before or during the polling, according to Ministerial Resolution No. (17) of 2023 It comes to prevent disruption of the electoral process, in addition to giving voters the opportunity to select the nation’s representatives objectively.
During the election silence it’s prohibited to display any statistics or opinion polls for licensed centers, while the role of the media is limited to spreading awareness, educational messages and urging male and female voters to participate positively, which creates a healthy and calm political climate before polling.
Kuwait organizes its seventh legislative elections since 2012 on Tuesday. A total of 207 candidates, including 13 women, are running in the elections after 40 individuals withdrew their nominations.
