Egypt’s Foreign Minister Engages in Talks to Promote Ceasefire in Gaza

Doha: Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty held phone conversations on Tuesday with a number of Arab and international officials to discuss the latest regional developments, foremost among them the situation in Gaza Strip. The calls included UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas, and Vice President of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization and Deputy President of the State of Palestine, Hussein Al Sheikh.

According to Qatar News Agency, in a statement, the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Abdelatty reviewed during the talks Egypt's intensive mediation efforts, carried out in cooperation with the State of Qatar and the United States, aimed at reaching a ceasefire, facilitating the entry of humanitarian aid, and securing the release of a number of hostages and detainees.

Abdelatty noted that significant progress had been achieved in this regard, reflected in the recent consultations held in Cairo with the Palestinian delegation, which focused on the proposal presented by US Special Envoy for the Middle East Steve Witkoff. He stressed the need to exert pressure on Israel to accept the proposal.

He also discussed the ongoing preparations for hosting the International Conference on Early Recovery and Reconstruction, to be convened once a ceasefire agreement is reached.

For their part, the officials expressed appreciation for Egypt's pivotal mediation role, carried out in cooperation with Qatar and the United States, to bring about a ceasefire, reaffirming their full support for Egypt's efforts and its role in promoting security and stability in the region.
