Cairo: Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi held a phone call today with Russian President Vladimir Putin to discuss regional developments, particularly the situation in Gaza.
According to Qatar News Agency, the Egyptian presidency stated in a statement that during the call, President El-Sisi reviewed joint efforts made by Egypt, Qatar, and the United States since October 2023 to reach a ceasefire agreement in Gaza, which serves as a cornerstone for restoring calm in the region. He also emphasized Egypt's ongoing efforts to ensure unhindered delivery of sufficient humanitarian aid.
The president stressed the importance of international cooperation to ensure implementation of the agreement, leading to a political process based on the two-state solution, in line with international legitimacy resolutions, as the only path to achieving lasting peace and stability in the region.
Regarding the situation in Syria, President El-Sisi reaffirmed Egypt's commitment to preserving Syria's unity, territorial integrity, and security of its people, as well as the need for regional and international efforts to restore stability in Syria.
The two leaders also discussed developments in Lebanon, efforts to restore stability in Sudan and Libya, and the ongoing war in Ukraine.
