Doha: Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi held a phone call on Wednesday with French President Emmanuel Macron to review the situation in the Gaza Strip and recent developments across the Middle East. During the conversation, El-Sisi highlighted Egypt's intensive efforts to broker a ceasefire in Gaza, secure the release of hostages and detainees, and facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid amid the worsening crisis in the enclave. He reaffirmed Egypt's firm stance against any attempts to forcibly displace the Palestinian people or undermine their legitimate rights - chief among them, the establishment of an independent Palestinian state based on the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
According to Qatar News Agency, El-Sisi also welcomed France's intention to recognize the State of Palestine in September, describing the move as a significant step toward justice for the Palestinian people and the realization of their full rights. Macron reiterated the importance of reaching a just and comprehensive resolution to the Palestinian issue, grounded in the two-state solution and international legitimacy. He also stressed the urgency of launching reconstruction efforts in Gaza.
Both leaders affirmed their commitment to continued coordination between Egypt and France, especially in light of the rapidly evolving situation in the region and their shared views on key regional issues.
