Egyptian-European Talks Focus on Gaza, Sudan, and Bilateral Relations

Cairo: Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty met today with the European Commissioner for Crisis Management, Hadja Lahbib, who is visiting Egypt, to discuss the latest regional and international developments, as well as ways to strengthen bilateral relations.

According to Qatar News Agency, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry stated that Abdelatty briefed the European official on the latest developments in the Gaza Strip and efforts to solidify the ceasefire in accordance with the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Agreement. He also highlighted ongoing preparations for Egypt to host the International Conference on Early Recovery, Reconstruction, and Development of Gaza.

The Egyptian Foreign Minister emphasized the importance of rebuilding Gaza's infrastructure and ensuring the safe, rapid, and unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid. He welcomed the upcoming meeting of the Palestine Donors Group in Brussels on November 20 and expressed hope for active participation from the European Union and its member states in funding reconstruction efforts.

Abdelatty also stressed the importance of activating European mechanisms to support the Palestinian people and the Palestinian Authority, strengthening its budget.

In discussing developments in Sudan, Abdelatty condemned the grave violations committed in the El Fasher region, outlining Egypt's efforts within the Quartet Mechanism to halt the conflict and preserve Sudan's unity and integrity. He stressed the importance of humanitarian access, respect for Sudanese sovereignty, and facilitating aid delivery and cooperation with international organizations.

Regarding Lebanon and Syria, the Foreign Minister reaffirmed Egypt's unwavering support for the unity, sovereignty, security, and stability of Lebanon. He reiterated Egypt's firm stance on respecting the unity and sovereignty of Syrian territory and rejecting actions or interventions that could undermine the country's stability. He called for activating a comprehensive political process to fulfill the aspirations of the Syrian people.

The European official commended Egypt's efforts in supporting peace and stability in the region, particularly its role in achieving a ceasefire in Gaza and facilitating humanitarian aid delivery. She stressed the European Union's support for Egyptian efforts and affirmed its commitment to further strengthening the strategic partnership with Egypt.
