Cairo: Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty and US Senior Advisor for Arab and African Affairs Massad Boulos engaged in discussions concerning the evolving situations in Sudan and the Gaza Strip during a phone call on Saturday.
According to Qatar News Agency, the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs released a statement in which Abdelatty underscored the significance of a ceasefire and the establishment of conditions conducive to a comprehensive political process that maintains Sudan's unity, sovereignty, and stability. He advocated for regional and international efforts to support the Sudanese populace and bolster the country's national institutions.
The Egyptian Foreign Minister further highlighted the necessity of adhering to all aspects of the Quad's Joint Statement on Restoring Peace and Security in Sudan. This includes achieving a comprehensive humanitarian truce as a foundation for initiating a sustainable political process that ensures the unity of the Sudanese state and its national institutions.
In relation to the Gaza situation, Abdelatty referenced a joint statement from nine countries, including Egypt, Qatar, and the United States, issued on Friday. This statement demonstrated support for adopting the UN Security Council draft resolution concerning the Palestinian issue.
Abdelatty emphasized progressing with the implementation of the plan introduced during the Sharm El Sheikh Peace Summit. This plan offers a practical route towards Palestinian self-determination and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, thereby enhancing peace and stability in the region.
He also addressed the ongoing preparations for the Cairo Conference for Early Recovery and Reconstruction in Gaza, stressing the importance of rallying regional and international support to ensure the effective execution of the plan aimed at alleviating the humanitarian suffering of the Palestinian people.
