Egypt, Norway Foreign Ministers Engage in Talks on Gaza and Regional Issues

Cairo: Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and his Norwegian counterpart, Espen Barth Eide, engaged in a phone call on Saturday to discuss the latest regional developments, with a particular focus on the situation in the Gaza Strip.

According to Qatar News Agency, the Egyptian foreign ministry released a statement indicating that the two ministers exchanged views and assessments on the situation in Gaza. Abdelatty highlighted the importance of international efforts to consolidate the ceasefire agreement and advance to the second phase of US President Donald Trump’s plan.

Abdelatty expressed Egypt’s strong opposition to any actions that might undermine Palestinian territorial unity or create new realities in the West Bank. He condemned the ongoing settlement expansion in the West Bank and urged the international community to intervene in halting the violence and settler attacks against Palestinian civilians.

He emphasized the necessity of delivering humanitarian aid to Gaza’s residents and creating an environment conducive to early recovery and reconstruction. Abdelatty appreciated Norway’s supportive stance on the Palestinian cause and the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.

Addressing the situation in Sudan, the Egyptian Foreign Minister briefed Eide on Egypt’s efforts within the Quartet Mechanism to promote a comprehensive ceasefire. Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s support for Sudan’s unity, sovereignty, and stability, as well as for the preservation of its national institutions. He stressed the international community’s obligation to ensure safe havens and humanitarian corridors for unimpeded aid delivery.

Regarding the Horn of Africa, Abdelatty reiterated Egypt’s support for Somalia’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. He condemned any unilateral actions undermining Somali sovereignty and rejected attempts to establish parallel entities that contradict Somalia’s unity. Abdelatty expressed Egypt’s condemnation of violations against international law and the United Nations Charter.
