Egypt, EU Envoy Discuss Gaza and Regional Escalation

Egypt: Egypt's Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty held talks on Tuesday with EU Special Representative for the Middle East Peace Process, Christophe Bigot, to discuss developments in the occupied Palestinian territories amid ongoing regional tensions.

According to Qatar News Agency, the two sides reviewed arrangements to enable a national committee for Gaza administration to begin its work in the enclave in the coming phase, stressing the importance of international support to help it carry out its responsibilities effectively, as well as backing the rapid deployment of an international stabilization force.

Abdelatty underlined the need to maintain focus on implementing all elements of the second phase of the US-backed plan, including ensuring the uninterrupted flow of humanitarian aid as a step towards early recovery and reconstruction in Gaza.

Discussions also covered developments in the West Bank, including the acceleration of settlement activity and efforts to impose new realities on the ground, as well as Israeli measures affecting access to the Al Aqsa Mosque and recent legislative steps concerning Palestinian prisoners.
