Doha: The Ministry of Education and Higher Education, in collaboration with Hamad Bin Khalifa University, organized on Wednesday a seminar titled “Religion and Philosophy in Islamic Thought.” The event was part of the “Fikr” seminar series, aimed at enriching intellectual dialogue and fostering communication bridges, in the presence of HE Minister of Education and Higher Education Lolwah bint Rashid Al Khater.
According to Qatar News Agency, the seminar’s first session explored the historical relationship between religion and philosophy, examining how philosophers and thinkers have approached religious thought and the reasons behind conflicts between the two fields.
The second session focused on the importance of decolonizing philosophy and religion in Islamic thought. Discussions were held on how terms like philosophy and religion are used in modern discourse, which impose implicit boundaries on understanding philosophy within Islam and the nature of their relationship.
The seminar underscored the dynamic interaction between religion and philosophy in Islamic thought and the challenges faced by Muslim philosophers in interpreting religious texts and developing doctrinal concepts. It also highlighted the reconciliation of reason and revelation in Islam, emphasizing the importance of fostering communication between different generations of researchers and intellectuals.
The “Fikr” seminar series serves as a leading platform for meaningful intellectual dialogue, bringing together decision-makers, academics, and experts to find solutions to contemporary challenges facing societies, discuss modern intellectual issues, and exchange knowledge, ideas, and opinions.
