Doha: Ecuador will choose its next president in a runoff election, Ecuador's National Electoral Council announced. More than 90 percent of the votes counted so far indicate that no candidate has met the requirement to win outright. The electoral authorities called the result a "technical tie" after the incumbent center-right Daniel Noboa and his main left-wing challenger Luisa Gonzalez received nearly identical percentages of the vote.
According to Qatar News Agency, the pair will now face a run-off in April. Voters went to the polls on Sunday to cast their votes in the presidential election, in which the incumbent president Daniel Noboa is competing with around 15 other candidates.
