Hokkaido: An earthquake measuring magnitude 5.3 on the Richter scale struck off Hokkaido Island, north of Japan.
According to Qatar News Agency, the Japan Meteorological Agency stated that the epicenter of the earthquake occurred at a depth of 50 kilometers. There have been no reports of casualties or material loss due to the earthquake so far.
Japan is located at the intersection of four tectonic plates, which makes it particularly vulnerable to seismic activity. It is also home to 100 active volcanoes.
