Maysan: An unidentified drone crashed near an oil field east of Maysan province in southern Iraq, an Iraqi security source reported Wednesday. The drone went down in an open area close to the Chinese oil company PetroChina in the Al-Kahla district of Maysan province. Fortunately, the incident did not result in any casualties.
According to Qatar News Agency, Iraqi security forces have secured the crash site, but the nature of the drone-whether it was for reconnaissance or carried explosives-remains undetermined. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
Earlier on Wednesday, the Iraqi Ministry of Defense reported an airstrike at the Habbaniyah military base in Anbar province, which resulted in significant casualties. The airstrike targeted a clinic and the works department of the base, killing seven soldiers and injuring 13 others. The ministry stated that the attack involved both an airstrike and a subsequent burst from the aircraft's cannon while the soldiers were on duty.
