Doha: The Years of Culture initiative and Doha Film Institute (DFI) will present a series of films, musical experiences, and talks celebrating the creative spirit of Argentina and Chile as part of Doha Film Festival 2025, taking place from November 20 to 28. Held under the Qatar Argentina and Chile 2025 Year of Culture, the special program highlights how rhythm, melody, and moving images unite to tell stories that transcend borders and encourage dialogue between cultures.
According to Qatar News Agency, the events build on a long-term partnership with DFI that showcases filmmakers and narratives from Years of Culture partner nations. The initiative aims to promote understanding through creative exchange and celebrate how art connects people and traditions across continents. Fatma Hassan Alremaihi, Festival Director and CEO of DFI, emphasized the importance of bringing together stories, voices, and talents from around the world to remind us of the shared human experience, offering a platform for discovering new perspectives and strengthening the bonds between Qatar and the world.
On November 21, the Museum of Islamic Art Auditorium will host "Made in Argentina and Chile," featuring seven short films by emerging Latin American filmmakers. The 103-minute showcase includes works such as "Towards the Sun, Far from the Center" by Pascal Viveros and Luciana Merino (Chile), "Sunset Over America" by Matas Rojas Valencia (Chile), "The Canon" by Martn Seeger (Chile), "The Look of Glass" by Tom¡s Murphy (Argentina), "Lime" by Santiago Dulce (Argentina), "Echo and Reverberation" by Fernanda Taleb (Argentina), and "Baisanos" by Andr©s and Francisca Khamis Giacoman (Chilean-Palestinian). Each story offers a different view of identity, belonging, and resilience, capturing the emotional landscapes of the Andes and Pampas.
On November 23, Bin Jelmood House at Msheireb Museums will host the talk "In Every Frame, a Rhythm," presented with afikra, a global media and educational platform. The session will examine how sound shapes narrative and emotion on screen.
Cultural exploration continues on November 27 at QNCC Auditorium 3 with "Scoring," a special live concert featuring Academy Award-winning Argentinian composer Gustavo Santaolalla performing with the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra.
The festival's finale on November 28 at Lusail City Stage will feature performances by Palestinian-Chilean singer Elyanna, known for blending Latin and Arabic influences, and celebrated Qatari artist Dana Al Meer, reflecting the spirit of cross-cultural creativity at the heart of the Years of Culture initiative.
