Doha: HE Director of the Government Communications Office and Chairman of the Permanent Web Summit Organising Committee, Sheikh Jassim bin Mansour bin Jabor Al-Thani, stated that the Web Summit is a global gathering that unites thousands of stakeholders in the technology field, including leaders, entrepreneurs, startups, and investors from around the world. It provides a platform for showcasing ideas and projects while fostering relationships and partnerships.
According to Qatar News Agency, His Excellency emphasized that the Web Summit is one of the largest annual events dedicated to technology globally, offering innovators and startups opportunities to secure funding necessary for launching or expanding their businesses. Since its inception in Lisbon in 2009, the summit has attracted over a million participants, underscoring its global significance and impact.
Qatar is set to host the summit for five years until 2028, marking it as the first country in the Middle East and North Africa to do so. This reflects confidence in Qatar's ability to host major global events. The summit's objectives align with the country's priorities, contributing to Qatar's National Vision 2030 by supporting efforts to diversify the economy and focus on the technology sector.
His Excellency noted that hosting the Web Summit enhances Qatar's position as a regional hub for technology and innovation. It draws the attention of global technology leaders to Qatar, presenting opportunities to explore its advanced infrastructure, investment-friendly environment, and access to local and global talent. Qatar is recognized for its attractiveness to talent, encouraging its transformation into a leading destination for technology and innovation.
On enhancing local talents, the Director confirmed that the summit aids in achieving the Third National Development Strategy, aiming to prepare a future-ready workforce. The event allows national startups and innovators to network with global institutions, facilitating knowledge transfer and stimulating innovation in Qatar.
