Doha: Over 15 years, Doha Film Institute has provided a gateway for emerging talents to "have the courage to pursue full-time careers" in cinema, observed the management team during a media briefing at Qumra 2025.
According to Qatar News Agency, Fatma Hassan Al Remaihi, Chief Executive Officer of the institute, expressed optimism about the growing number of exciting new projects. She emphasized that while films are challenging, they offer fulfilling work for young people and the community. Al Remaihi highlighted the inspiring interaction between participants and mentors at Qumra and mentioned the institute's strong support for women filmmakers. She stated that the DFI does not set quotas but focuses on the quality of stories and filmmakers' dedication. The institute aims to support the Arab film industry, allowing them to tell their own stories and gain experience in cinema.
Elia Suleiman, Artistic Advisor at DFI, noted that Qumra reflects the regional film industry's shift from future aspirations to strong international solidarity. Suleiman expressed his personal connection to the event, valuing insights from Qumra Masters, who provide invaluable knowledge to emerging filmmakers.
Hanaa Issa, Director of Strategy and Development at DFI and Qumra Deputy Director, highlighted the event's success due to its intimate and focused nature. She reported over 700 meetings with industry experts for 49 Qumra projects worldwide, emphasizing the targeted program for both projects and industry participants. The 11th edition of Qumra included masterclasses, mentorship sessions, and industry matchmaking, with continued online engagement with mentors from April 12 to 14.
