HE Deputy Speaker of the Shura Council Dr. Hamda bint Hassan Al-Sulaiti underlined Monday the State of Qatar’s great interest in enhancing the status of women as one of the fundamental pillars in achieving Qatar National Vision 2030.
This came in Her Excellency speech at the opening session of the “Investing in Women’s Participation in Political Life” Forum, hosted by the Jordanian capital Amman, and organized by the Ministerial Committee for the Empowerment of Women in the Kingdom in Jordan, in collaboration with the Coalition of Women Parliamentarians from Arab Countries to Combat Violence against Women, the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women, and the National Democratic Institute.
Her Excellency said that the State of Qatar, in light of the lofty directives of its wise leadership, has adopted clear policies to enhance the status of women in all fields, “as the State has provided equal opportunities for women in the fields of education and work, which has enabled them t
o participate effectively in various sectors of work, in addition to exercising their right to political participation.” HE the Deputy Speaker of the Shura Council drew attention to the special attention that the State pays to strengthening and protecting the family as the nation’s wealth, and providing all appropriate conditions for women’s participation in the field of public work.
She noted that the State’s approach has resulted in Qatari women holding senior executive and administrative positions, and they now constitute more than 37 percent of the workforce in all fields, especially in vital sectors such as education, health and social work, in addition to the fact that Qatari women represent more than 20 percent of entrepreneurs in Qatar.
