Defending Champions Manchester United Knocked Out of FA Cup


Fulham: Fulham knocked out defending champions from the FA Cup Round of 16 today, winning 4-3 on penalties after a 1-1 draw in regular time. Fulham took the lead through defender Calvin Bassey in the first-half stoppage time (45+1) from a corner, while Bruno Fernandes converted Diogo Dalot’s cross to equalize for United in the 71st minute.



According to Qatar News Agency, with the match level at full time, the teams went to a penalty shootout to decide the quarter-final qualifier. Fulham successfully converted four penalties, while their goalkeeper Bernd Leno saved two of Manchester United’s five attempts.



In another Round of 16 clash, Brighton advanced to the quarter-finals after defeating hosts Newcastle United 2-1. Yankuba Minteh scored in the 44th minute, and Danny Welbeck netted the winner in the 114th minute. Newcastle’s only goal came from Alexander Isak, who converted a penalty in the 22nd minute.



With this result, Fulham and Brighton join the list of quarter-finalists, which already includes Aston Villa, Crystal Palace, Preston North End, Bournemouth, and Manchester City. The final spot will be decided by tomorrow’s match between Nottingham Forest and Ipswich Town.
