Doha: The death toll from flash floods that hit Kerr County, Texas, has risen to 32, including 14 children, local authorities announced.
According to Qatar News Agency, County Sheriff Larry Leitha stated at a press conference that rescue teams were able to recover more bodies, bringing the death toll to 32. He explained that the victims include 18 adults and 14 children.
Texas Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick warned of the possibility of flash flooding over the next 24-48 hours, even with light rainfall, particularly in areas extending from San Antonio to Waco, with risks continuing in the western and central parts of the state.
The National Weather Service declared a state of emergency for large areas of Kerr County, noting that the Guadalupe River's water level rose suddenly by eight meters in just 45 minutes, significantly increasing the risk of flooding.
Rescue and relief teams continue their efforts to recover anyone missing and provide support to the affected areas, amid fears of continued bad weather in the region.
