The Okaz Cultural and Literary Forum, in cooperation with the Horizon Foundation, held a literary evening to commemorate the tenth anniversary of the passing of the poet of Arabism and the homeland, Samih al-Qasim, at the Horizon Theater Hall in Shefa-Amr.
The evening was attended by a large and diverse audience of writers, poets and intellectuals, including the son of our late poet, Mr. Watan al-Qasim, head of the Samih al-Qasim Foundation.
The evening included welcoming remarks by the writer and actor Afif Shalyout, director of the Horizon Foundation, and by the poet Dr. Enad Jaber, director of the Okaz Forum.
The poet and researcher Iman Masarweh gave a speech about the image of Jerusalem in the poetry of Samih al-Qasim, and the second speech was by the writer Naji Daher about the personality of Samih al-Qasim the human being, which was delivered on his behalf by the poet Anwar Khair. The poet Sami Mahna gave another speech about Samih al-Qasim the poet and human being.
The artist Imad Faro performed
the song “I Walk with Upright Stature”. The actors Afif Shalyout and Mahmoud Sobh presented a theatrical scene from one of al-Qasim’s theatrical works.
The program included poetry recitations by poets Nazem Hassoun, Sami Mahna, Radi Mishlih, and An’ad Jaber.
The evening concluded with a speech by the son of the deceased, Mr. Watan Al-Qasim, in which he greeted the attendees and thanked the organizers of the evening for their kind initiative. He also spoke about the foundation’s projects and activities, including the establishment of the Samih Al-Qasim Museum and Center in Rama.
