Colombia and EGC Sign “Commitment to Peace” in Doha Mediation

Doha: The Group of Mediator Countries, comprising Qatar, Norway, Spain, and Switzerland, has announced the successful conclusion of a round of mediation talks between the Government of Colombia and the self-designated EGC. The discussions, held in Doha, focused on the demobilization process of the EGC and peacebuilding initiatives in affected territories.

According to Qatar News Agency, the talks resulted in the signing of a "Commitment to Peace" agreement between the two parties. This agreement underscores a shared responsibility and commitment to improving conditions for civilians and ending the ongoing armed conflict. The declaration signifies a pivotal step towards the demobilization of the EGC and the initiation of peacebuilding efforts.

The mediators commended the parties for their dedication to dialogue and compromise, which is aimed at achieving a sustainable resolution. The mediation process seeks to enhance the lives of communities impacted by the conflict, offering opportunities for young people and addressing the needs of victims seeking justice and reparations.

Despite the progress, the mediator countries acknowledged that challenges remain. They emphasized their continued support in helping the parties build trust and advance towards peace. The successful implementation of the commitments will require ongoing discipline, transparency, and trust between the involved parties.

The mediator group expressed hope for continued collaboration with civil society, institutions, and international partners to support and ensure the success of this peace process.
