Doha: The Center for Conflict and Humanitarian Studies (CHS) organized Tuesday, at its headquarters in Doha, a panel discussion titled “Documenting the Genocide in Gaza: From Survivors’ Testimonies to the International Court.” The session was attended by a number of diplomats specializing in human rights and international cooperation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, along with a group of international legal and human rights experts, including Director of the International Centre of Justice for Palestinians (ICJP) Dr. Tayab Ali, and Senior Legal Officer at the same center Dania Abu Al Hajj. The discussion was moderated by CHS Director Dr. Ghassan Elkahlout.
According to Qatar News Agency, Aisha Al Mohannadi, representative of international cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, opened the session with a speech in which she affirmed that the crimes committed in Gaza, genocide, forced displacement, and the use of starvation as a weapon, require urgent action from international organizations and the activation of legal mechanisms to ensure accountability of the perpetrators and to empower the Palestinian people with their legitimate rights.
The convening of this session comes in connection with recent events witnessed in Doha and the subsequent intensive Qatari movements at both regional and international levels. The State of Qatar hosted the Emergency Arab-Islamic Summit held yesterday, which affirmed the unity of stance and shared destiny.
Today, HE Minister of State for International Cooperation Maryam bint Ali bin Nasser Al Misnad, headed the Qatari delegation at the emergency session of the Human Rights Council (HRC60) in Geneva to discuss the attack that targeted Qatar. This parallel between political engagement in international forums and research and intellectual efforts in Doha reflects Qatar’s approach to integrating work between its governmental institutions and research centers, thereby enhancing its capacity to defend the principles of international humanitarian law, document crimes and violations to prevent impunity, and uphold justice and human rights.
