Chelsea: Chelsea reached the semi-finals of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup after defeating Palmeiras of Brazil 2-1 in their quarterfinal match held today as part of the ongoing tournament in the United States.
According to Qatar News Agency, Chelsea's goals were scored by Cole Palmer in the 16th minute and Palmeiras defender Augustin Giay, who accidentally put the ball into his own net in the 83rd minute. Palmeiras had equalized earlier through Estevao Willian in the 53rd minute.
With this victory, Chelsea booked a spot in the semi-finals to face Fluminense of Brazil, who had beaten Al Hilal of Saudi Arabia 2-1 on Friday in the opening match of the quarterfinals.
Chelsea started the match strongly, dominating early and threatening Palmeiras' goal on multiple occasions, especially through Pedro Neto, who was a constant threat from the right flank. Chelsea opened the scoring in the 16th minute when Cole Palmer finished off a pass from Trevoh Chalobah at the edge of the penalty area.
In contrast, Palmeiras struggled defensively in the first half and failed to contain Chelsea's continuous attacks. However, the Brazilian side came out stronger in the second half, and managed to equalize through Estevao in the 53rd minute.
Chelsea found it difficult to break down Palmeiras' defense despite repeated attempts, until the breakthrough came in the 83rd minute when Malo Gusto sent a low cross into the box that deflected off Palmeiras' Augustin Giay and ended up in his own net, giving Chelsea the decisive goal.
