Casablanca: Police Investigate Drivers Who Hindered Public Transport by Using Tramway Lane

Casablanca’s police on Tuesday launched a judicial investigation against drivers who were part of a festive procession that ostentatiously used the tramway lanes, disrupting public transport and endangering the safety of road users.

Preliminary investigations and CCTV footage revealed that the incident took place in the early hours of Sunday, August 13, when the drivers of several vehicles, part of a wedding procession, used the reserved tramway lanes in the Ain Sebaâ area, according to a statement from the Directorate General of National Security.

The drivers have been identified and one of them has been arrested and had his vehicle impounded, said the same source, adding that the offending driver has been referred to judicial investigation

The police’s statement futher noted that searches and investigations in the field are continuing intensively with the aim of apprehending all persons involved in these facts, who have all been identified.

In parallel with the ongoing judicial investigation of this case, which has been the subject of recordings circulating on social networks, the Casablanca police prefecture points out that traffic control operations carried out between 1 February and 14 August led to the detection of 6,313 violations relating to the use of bus and tram lanes by road users (by car or motorcycle), the statement concludes.
