Doha: HE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defense Affairs Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani chaired the Cabinet's regular meeting held at its seat at the Amiri Diwan. The meeting commenced with the Cabinet welcoming the recent ceasefire agreement between Hamas and Israel, brokered with the assistance of Qatar, Egypt, and the United States.
According to Qatar News Agency, the Cabinet lauded the efforts of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, whose dedicated involvement significantly contributed to reaching the ceasefire agreement. The Cabinet expressed hopes for the complete implementation of the agreement, emphasizing its potential to halt civilian casualties, facilitate humanitarian aid, and promote regional stability. Furthermore, the Cabinet voiced aspirations for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, based on international resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative.
During the session, the Cabinet approved several draft laws, including a new draft law to replace the 1995 law on practicing the veterinary profession. This new legislation aims to reorganize veterinary practices to bolster livestock protection, food security, and public health. Additionally, amendments to laws concerning wildlife protection and endangered species trade were approved to align with the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change's strategies.
The Cabinet also gave preliminary approval to adopt regional technical regulations as Qatari standards, aimed at enhancing product quality in local markets. Furthermore, a draft decision to establish the organizational structure of Qatar Tourism was approved.
Internationally, the Cabinet agreed to ratify a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Colombia on port cooperation, and approved MoUs with Turkiye, Uganda, and Timor-Leste in various fields. Academic cooperation initiatives involving Qatari and French institutions, as well as a program related to endowments and Islamic affairs with Algeria, were also endorsed.
The meeting concluded with the review of annual reports from various committees and the acknowledgment of Qatar's full membership in the Global Privacy Assembly, alongside hosting the Common Criteria International Conference.
